Terms of Use
These terms cover your use of Dab. They're written to be readable; if anything is unclear, just ask.
1. Description of Service
Dab is a menu bar color picker for macOS, built and operated by Haider ("I", "me"). Dab lets you sample any color on your screen and copy it in many formats, with color names, contrast metrics, color vision tools, history, palettes, and optional iCloud sync. By downloading, installing, or using Dab, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Free and Pro Plans
Free
Dab is free to download and use. Picking colors and copying them in any of the supported formats is unlimited and free, forever. The free experience also includes the Picker HUD, color names and families, WCAG and APCA contrast, color vision previews, the colorblind assist tools, and your color history. There are no time limits and no expiring trials.
Dab Pro
Dab Pro is an optional upgrade that unlocks the power tools: exporting color cards as PNG or SVG, pulling palettes from any image, iCloud sync across your Macs, and Smart Copy (which formats each color for the app you're pasting into). Pro is available as a monthly subscription ($5.99/month) or a one time Lifetime purchase ($39.99). All Pro features are identical regardless of which option you choose.
3. Subscriptions and Payments
All purchases and subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Dab does not process payments directly and has no access to your payment information.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Monthly subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. The renewal price is the same as the original subscription price.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time by going to System Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions on your Mac, or through the App Store app on any Apple device signed in with the same Apple ID.
The Lifetime purchase is a one time payment that grants permanent access to all Pro features, including future updates. No renewal or additional payment is required.
Refunds are handled by Apple according to their refund policy. I do not have the ability to issue refunds directly.
4. Color Accuracy
Dab samples the color of the on screen pixel you select and converts it to the sRGB color space before reading values. Results depend on your display, its calibration, color profile, and the source content. Dab reports what is rendered on screen and is not a substitute for hardware color calibration, soft proofing, or print proofing. I do not guarantee that on screen color matches printed or physical color.
5. Accessibility and Color Vision Features
Dab includes color vision simulation, plain language color identification, confusion line warnings, and spoken color names. These are assistive aids for design and everyday use. They are not medical or diagnostic tools, and they are not a substitute for professional advice. You should not rely on them for safety critical color decisions. Simulations and identifications are approximate by nature.
6. Your Content
You retain full ownership of the colors, palettes, and history you create in Dab. I do not claim any rights over your content. Because this data is stored locally on your Mac, you are responsible for maintaining your own backups. I am not liable for any loss of your color data.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Dab in compliance with all applicable laws. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of any part of the app, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits despite this limitation. You may not use the app for any unlawful purpose.
8. Intellectual Property
Dab, including its design, code, icons, illustrations, animations, and branding, is the intellectual property of Haider. You are granted a limited, non exclusive, non transferable, revocable license to use the app on Apple devices you own or control, subject to the Apple EULA and these terms.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works based on Dab or any of its components without prior written permission. Dab's icon set is provided by Boxicons under the MIT License, credited within the app.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
Dab is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non infringement.
I do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or free of harmful components. Color readings, names, contrast values, color vision simulations, and palette extraction may not always be accurate. iCloud sync depends on Apple's services and may be affected by their availability or changes.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the use of or inability to use Dab. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of data, loss of productivity, or damages resulting from reliance on color readings, names, contrast values, or color vision output.
In no event shall my total liability exceed the amount you paid for Dab in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Termination
You may stop using Dab at any time by uninstalling the app. I reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue Dab (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. If Dab is discontinued, you will retain access to any Lifetime purchase benefits for as long as the app remains functional on your device.
12. Changes to These Terms
I may update these terms from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of Dab after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. For significant changes, I will update the effective date and, where possible, note what changed.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable in your jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these terms or the use of Dab will be resolved in the courts of the applicable jurisdiction.
